How To Record Screencast with QuickTime Player X

You get a bonus with this recipe. Not only will you learn how to use QuickTime Player X to record a screencast, but you will also get a quick review of three great sites that will help you in your video adventures.

First, take a look at the video below. It is a brief overview of a few sites that I like. I know, it’s not really that interesting, but it took me 2 minutes and 14 seconds to record this video, it required no editing, and I used software that was already on my Mac to make it.

This video was created with QuickTime Player X. QTPX is software that allows you to play media files, but you can also create media with it.

One of the features enables you to record and narrate your on screen computer movements.

It is called a “screencast,” and there are a few programs and even websites that can create a screen recording. Many Mac users (including me) use Screenflow, which you can use for basic editing as well.

There is also Camtasia which is available for both Mac and PC. There are other programs like Jing, and Screenr is a site that allows you to screen record and share screencasts.

As you see, you have a few options, but if you’re just getting started, try QuickTime Player X. It’s free and easy.

Watch this tutorial to see how easy it is to use.
